Music Ministry
The purpose and mission of the
music ministry of Ss. Peter and Paul is to bring people into closer relationship
with Christ through our music. We strive to help all in worship of our God by
encouraging active participation of the assembly during Mass and in celebration
of other liturgical events. We rehearse together to make our music more pleasing
so as not to become a distraction to others. Our musical community also acts in
a leadership role as an example of people working together for the Lord as well
as working together as a community of believers who respect and support one
another through prayer.
The music
ministry consists of: singers (choir and cantors); instrumentalists;
director/organist.
Instrumentalists:
Instrumentalists
accompany the choirs.
Cantors:
Cantors lead the assembly in
their sung prayer.
Praise Choir:
The Praise Choir sings every Sunday at 9 a.m. Mass, year round. We
rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. from September through May. This
choir also sings for special Masses (anointing, All Souls, Thanksgiving,
Christmas, Holy Week and extra celebrations, including Confirmation,
anniversaries and missions.) The group is currently made up of adults of all
ages.
Marian Funeral Choir:
The
Marian (funeral) Choir sings for every parish funeral. We rehearse rarely as
needed and average at least 40 funerals per year. All the members are seniors.
Hosanna Ensemble:
The
Hosanna ensemble is a select small group of experienced singers. They sing once
a month, usually at the 11 a.m. Mass, but sing as needed for special events,
such First Eucharist or the parish picnic.
Holy Family Choir:
The Holy Family Choir is a group of adults and
children who gather on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday to sing for
certain Masses. Usually, the choir consists of parents and children, spouses,
and grandparents and grandchildren. They rehearse once or twice as needed before
the event on a Sunday afternoon. This group has the most fluid membership and
changes from one holiday to the next due to family availability.
